Summer Sacred Shenanigans

Yes folks, it’s a thing. And it happened.

This weekend was definitely the most fun I’ve had all summer. =) I went to stay a couple nights with a girl from college, Sarah (not my roomie – a different Sarah. There’s like nine billion Sarahs at Hope. It’s a strange and unusual phenomenon), who lives in New Hampshire. She’s a dancer, and was in Sacred Dance. We choreographed a piece to do at her church this morning, and we also did some choreography to scripture. And it was fantastic. =) I’ve never really danced at a church before. I went to one in Holland last semester, but it was kind of weird because we had to come back right after dancing so we could be back on campus in time for another Sacred Dance event, so we didn’t stay for the sermon or get to talk to anyone after, which was sad. So this was kind of a new experience, and it was super fun. =)

In the process of choreographing, we discovered that we are both the middle child in our families, and thus both suffer from an infamous and unfortunate malady known as the Middle Child Syndrome. Yep. The first ten minutes of “choreographing” were spent saying things like, “What should we do?” “I dunno, what do you think?” “Do you want to be in a line…? Or not in a line?” “Do you think we should stand next to each other, or one in front of the other?” And so on and so forth…

*cough* Decisions, you know. We were never much good at them. My precious. *creepy Gollum hiss*

It was kind of sad. But once we got started we were on a roll and did awesome things. And we also founded the Association of Rockingness. Don’t ask. It’s an exclusive club. We need t-shirts.

Sarah and I. We rock.

Yep.

And it was also really, really awesome to see someone from Hope again. It was like, hey. This college thing actually happened. Hope still exists. And the people I knew there were REAL PEOPLE. With real lives. And real families. And real houses. It wasn’t all a very hazy dream after all. What do you know. Imagine that.

…this is what happens when you have no friends who live within a hundred miles of your house. I have no life. XD

Anyhow. I discovered how wonderful it is to walk next to someone who is as tall as me and thus walks as fast as me. Rare thing, that. Very rare thing. And there was an adorable cat that I almost brought home with me, and an insane and hyper little dog that I didn’t almost bring home with me. And it was so nice to get a Saturday off work and just dance and relax all day. I forgot how much fun Sacred was. And how much I missed it. <3 And dance in general. Once a week is NOT ENOUGH. Never. -_- Darn summer programs.

So yea. The last couple days were awesome. And hopefully Sarah can come and dance at my church with me over Christmas Break. =)) A video of us rehearsing the dance is below, for your enjoyment. The song is called In Feast Or Fallow, and the version we used is by the Hope College Chapel Worship Team. So amazing.

…on another note, I can’t wait for the people I’m house-sitting for to come back from Alaska so I can sleep in my own bed again and maybe actually have some TIME to reply to long-overdue letters and work on my writing some more. My short story still sits at a pathetic six or seven pages. *sigh*

And also Sarah, you rock. =) yay.

How doest thou remember all thine moves? o.o And if anyone corrects my terrible Shakespeare stuff… I’ll crack them over the head with a limp noodle.

      Do limp noodles really crack?

And that is the same thing my Dad asked. The only thing I can come up with by way of an answer is that I’ve been doing it since I was three years old. My mind and body have been trained to remember things like that after a very short amount of rehearsing time. It’s kind of awesome, when I really stop and think about it, actually…I love dance. <3

*considers* no, they probably don’t. ^^
Hm. Maybe sort of like how I remember all of the jumps in riding, even though my teacher is constantly switching the order. x)

I especially liked the part near-ish the end (maybe the bridge of the song?) where she knelt with her back to the camera and you danced. That was pretty. *nods*

yes, that would be the bridge. Haha. Thanks. That part was improv-ed…which is kind of scary, but not nearly as scary now as it was at the beginning of the year, thanks to Sacred Dance. =P that part was fun. I think I like the first verse the best though. Or the last verse. idk.

Ooh, I loved it! I want to see you dance sometime….in real life. =P You’ve been dancing since three? That’s one year younger than me! Except, you’ve been dancing for a whole lot longer all together. xD Worship dance rocks, and your dance was so pretty. I think I liked the last verse the best…or the bridge. It was all great, though.

Come visit me. ;) And yea, I’ve been dancing since I was three. Ballet lessons for sixteen years, man…and Modern for four now, I think. …I’m definitely a bunhead. XD haha. Yea, I didn’t really know Sacred dance was a thing until I went to college…it’s definitely one of the best things I’ve ever discovered. <3 =)

I’d love to, except you live in another state. We actually drove through VT on the way to NH, my brother asked me what I’d do if I passed your car. xD Ikr? I love worship dance! I can’t believe not finding out about it until college…..

Lol. Well. What can I say. I live in Vermont. There’s probably a grand total of no one here who does sacred dance. XD …besides me…=D

That’s depressing. I should move to VT so you’re not so alone….then you could patent my halo in person….=D
