*wonders what is meant by “stuff”* The music? The movie? Tolkien in general? because regardless of the movie itself…Howard Shore’s music is some of the most amazing I have ever heard. <3

LotR/The Hobbit in general. I haven’t listened to much of the music, but I do like “In Dreams” ^^ And your title is very… detailed. *grins*

I see. Well…it does have a very intense following, and a huge crowd of fans who freak out quite…spasmodically over it all. The amount of terrible Tolkien fanfiction out there is embarrassing. In terms of fans like that, I think a lot of them (generalizing here, no one shoot me) are very shallow, and only love it for the actors in the movies. The type of LotR fan who has only ever read LotR itself and maybe the Hobbit. It is pretty overrated in that sense. And the movies themselves don’t near live up to the books (but what movie ever does?)
However, it is possible to go wayyyy beyond that. Tolkien’s life work is truly a mythology, and contains so, so much more than LotR and the Hobbit. Those two stories are just that – two relatively small happenings in the whole history of a universe Tolkien created. Something he literally spent his entire life on and still never finished, it was and is so large. That part isn’t overrated. That part is probably not even discovered by the majority of LotR fans, and if it is, it probably isn’t looked into more than a cursory “Oh look, Tolkien wrote that, it’s probably good.”
In other words, yea, the LotR movies and probably now the Hobbit movies are a little bit overrated. A lot of people like LotR so much just because of the actors’ looks. *coughOrlandoBloomcough* However, to people who know more about Tolkien’s work, and really delve into it (like me! and like lots of other people out there! woohoo!), the movies stand for so much more than a shallow fanbase and money for the film industry. Tolkien set out to create a mythology. He SET OUT to do that. His goal was for other people to recognize his work as such. He wanted other people to take his work, and adapt it. Make movies. Make plays. Maybe write some horrid fanfiction. Just like we do with other myths (percy jackson books, for instance [Oops, did I just accidentally call them horrid fanfiction? *evil grin* never…=# ]). He wanted the rest of the world to take his mythology and accept it and add to it and make it grow and make it REAL. The LotR and Hobbit movies are just another step in that direction. And it’s not overrated, howevermany freaking-out-fangirls it brings to light. I think it’s absolutely beautiful. =)

Have you read LotR/the Hobbit/other Tolkien stuff? And as for the title – I do all my music posts with the same title because I can never think of anything to put there and leaving it blank is annoying because then you can’t…click the title…because there is none…XD

…well in a related frame of mind, why didn’t God just put a fence around the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden? Talk about a plot hole. I mean, come on. =P You can’t just use the Eagles as free transportation. It’s not their battle. The Eagles are messengers of Manwe. Technically, if Middle Earth became overrun with Orcs and Sauron, they could just fly home and not have to worry about it. It’s a much more valid question to ask, “Why didn’t the Valar just get themselves out of Arda and into Middle Earth and blast Sauron to dust? Why didn’t THEY take care of it?” Ah, but see, in a way, they did. They sent the wizards’ council. Incidentally, Gandalf was the only one who actually succeeded because the others became distracted by one thing or another. But. He did it. At the request of the Valar. Sooooooo. Hah.
…Yea. That whole argument about the Eagles flying Frodo and Sam to Mordor is…-_- *has debated it several times now* XD haha.
